By far the most popular and some say the best way to make rose is by limiting the contact between the grape skins and the juice of the red grapes, since the color is held in the grapes skin. The time of the maceration can last anywhere from six to 48 hours (as opposed to weeks or months for a red). The longer the maceration, the darker and more richly flavored the rosé. The other method is combining white wine and red wine. Difficult to knock this method since some of the finest wines in the world are made this way, Champagne!

2018 Chateau de Pibarnon Rose, Bandol, Provence, France $29.99

Chateau de Pibarnon is one of the finest estates in all of Provence. A full-bodied, rose wine that captures the licorice and berry intensity of Mourvèdre with a touch of silk from Cinsault. When you hear people talk of “serious” rosé, they’re talking about this wine. Ages tremendously well! Glistening orange. Pungent cherry, blood orange and floral scents, along with suggestions of succulent herbs and chalky minerals. Weighty red berry, citrus fruit and candied lavender flavors show sharp delineation and pick up a deeper peach note with aeration. 2019 Mas de Gourgonnier Les Baux de Provence Rosé, Provence, France  $19.99

Between Avignon and the sea there is the very heart of Provence, Les Baux de Provence, where the garrigue perfumes the air. Here’s where you find Mas de Gourgonnier, a family-run estate that’s been organic as long as anyone can remember. 60% grenache, 22% cabernet sauvignon, 12% mourvedre, 6% cinsault. Light salmon color, lively freshness, orange-blossom bouquet and wonderful tangy wild

2019 Bastide des Deux Lunes, Cotes de Provence, France $15.99

Fortress of the Two Moons is a family domaine in the heart of Provence. Grenache 80%, Rolle 10%, Mourvèdre 10% are the grape varieties. A beautiful salmon pink, hints of peach and white flowers, this is a rich and round rosé that works just as well as an aperitif as it does with charcuterie or summertime salads.


2019 Saladin Tra-La-La Cotes du Rhone Rose $19.99

Sisters Elisabeth and Marie-Laurence are the latest Saladin winegrowers. The family are first recorded as growers here in 1422! Their wine is ‘Agriculture Biologique’ (Certified Organic) by ‘Ecocert.’ Old Cinsault and Grenache Noir by ‘saignée’ (draining)

Pure red fruit aromas of raspberry and strawberry. The palate is round but balanced with good acidity and the finish is long with pretty red fruits continuing at the end.

Chateau de Flaugergues, a splendid ‘folly’ from the XVIII century is property of the Count and the Countess Henri de Colbert. The property is both a wine estate and a tourist attraction. The manor house is a national monument and has been in the same family since its creation in 1696. Grenache 60%, Cinsault 30%, Syrah 10%

Sweet-tart strawberry and rasp-berry fruit with a smooth palate and a little spice on the finish.


2019 Chidaine Touraine Rose, Loire Valley, France $13.99

Francois Chidaine is one of the best-known producers in the Loire Valley, having been one of the first champions of organic farming in Vouvray. 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Grolleau. Translucent orange. Fleshy and energetic in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and red berry flavors and a late jolt of spiciness.

Alliance Loire is a group of nine co-operatives who have pooled their resources to manage their marketing and sales. Made from Pineau d’Aunis, a traditional Loire grape.

Terra Santa means "Land blessed by the gods". Ideally located between sea and mountain on the Island of Corsica. The vineyards are alternatively bathed by the summer heat and the freshness of the night. The local grape variety 100% Sciaccarellu.

2019 Le Fraghe Chiaretto Rose, Bardolino, Italy $13.99

Matilde Poggi took over the family estate in 1984. She has recently completed the conversion to organic viticulture and is fully certified. Corvina and Rondinella are the local grape varieties. strawberry and melon fruit offer plenty of pleasing flavors, and overall this wine has the versatility to become a summer staple.  We particularly like it with antipasti and young cheeses.


2019 Ottella Roses Roses, Lugana, Italy $12.99

A family operation since the 1500’s brothers Francesco and Michele Montresor tend to their family’s  estate covers that covers 25 hectares near Lake Garda. The local grape varieties are Corvina, Lagrein, Rondinella. Rose Roses has fresh raspberry fruit and a salty mineral tang make this one of the best Italian rosés. Subtle and refined.


2019 Argyle Rose, Willamette Valley, Oregon $19.99

Argyle has been making sparkling wines since 1987 and use that expertise to make a rose using a traditional Champagne technique; adding a small a of amount of Chardonnay. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were de-stemmed together for a cold, 48-hour co-maceration, while the Pinot Meunier underwent the same maceration technique all on its own. After gentle pressing, the wines undertook long, cool fermentation in neutral wood barrels and aged on the lees for 6 months. The resulting rosé is leap out of the glass watermelon, red cherry, and fresh cut spring flowers, while the refreshing acidity is woven together with subtle lees texture and mineral length.
